How a Master degree can set you up for life
It may come as a surprise to you, but figures show that healthcare management is one of the areas that will not be made redundant by AI. As we get older and stay healthier for longer, the level of available posts in healthcare management positions has increased and is set to bring more people aboard than ever before. While tech may be the goal of much of our younger talent, those of us old enough to have been in work for a decade or two realise there are industries that will be exempt from the robots, tech and smart computers that can think for themselves. Other roles set for growth are in data analytics, IT and Blockchain development, as well as areas like Salesforce, which many companies are crying out for qualified operatives.
What kind of roles could you expect to get as a Master in healthcare? Well, the common roles would be for management, middle management and supervisory roles but it’s not too far off to think about CEO or COO. The range of places you can work is pretty varied too, with hospitals making up the bulk of the opportunities, doctor’s offices, nursing homes, healthcare organisations and outpatient centres, and then there are Government healthcare facilities, health insurance companies, laboratories, dental offices and lots more bringing up the rear. Then here the other areas we mentioned to consider, and they are numerous with plenty of scope for management and senior roles.
As a Master, you would expect to direct and coordinate these places, and as the strategic head, you would expect to be paid quite well too. Your role would be to take care of the existing systems as well as plan for new services and facilities. You’d need to give your expert opinion on a range of policies, and you would also build business strategies and run the day-to-day business like recruiting and training.
What about money? Well there has to be return for your investment, and most postgraduates can see their wages rise by anything up to 22%, the average being Dh125k 9PCM (according to Payscale.com), and those at the very top of their game can expect to earn as much as Dh160k PCM. That is a pretty hefty package, and one that could set you up for the rest of your life if you manage your finances as well as you manage your facility.
The Germans have a word that doesn’t directly translate into English. The word is vorsprung, and roughly translates as staying one step ahead of the rest. This is what we have to have if we want a brighter future. A Masters degree is the new Bachelors. Don’t get left behind.
